Now we'd heard about this, but until this trip had never experienced it and it's true what they say -
that the Aussies are amongst the most hospitable people in the world. Wherever we went we were met by friendly
courtesy. Our guide in Canberra, Glen, his wife Sharon whom we met on our return and our hosts for the evening,
Peter and Tracie Buckley (and their adorable daughter Kathleen) certainly opened their doors to us with great
warmth. By the end of the evening we felt as if we were among old friends. It's just a pity they live too far
away to make a it regular gathering! Great company, good food, a glass or two of wine - what more could you
ask? The perfect end to a perfect day!
The pictures on this page were not taken during our stay. Our own photos are rather too dark to reproduce well
here, so by dint of a little 'bullying by email' these pictures winged their way across the world to grace this
page. Thanks guys!
On our return from Canberra, we made a quick stop at Glen's house to collect Sharon and to meet his lovely dogs,
Casey (Aus Ch Sheermyst Just Me) and Ziggy (Aus Ch Sheermyst Black Magic). Seventh Heaven - more Border Collies!!
Glen & Sharon Jameson - & friends!
It was dark by the time we reached the Buckley's` home, but the night was warm & the barbie was fired
up. While Tracie cooked, we chatted, drank and met some of their dogs, amongst them their new show champion
(Aus Ch Kennoway Lochln Mclochln) - we couldn't think of a better way to relax at the end of a long day!
Tracie & Peter Buckley & their daughter Kathleen.
We were a little sad when the evening came to a close, as we knew it might be years before we'd be able to
renew our friendship face to face, but Chris & I had the next stage of our Australian adventure to look
forward to. The following morning we said goodbye to New South Wales & boarded a flight for Cairns, in
tropical Queensland. We had a week of doing as little or as much as we wanted, basking in the heat of beautiful
Port Douglas, about an hour's drive north of the airport.
